Science Writer/Communications Consultant, San Diego, Calif. – April 1988 to present

Specialize in science communications for science- and technology-based companies, academic/non-profit research institutions, and scientific professional organizations.  Capabilities include:  strategic planning, media relations, science writing/editing, crisis communications, conference support, and collateral materials. 

Public Information Representative, Developmental Biology Center, University of California, Irvine – April 1985 to March 1988

Defined the duties of this newly created position.  Increased awareness of basic research program through national and local media coverage, internal and external publications, and a monthly research newsletter.  Developed an aggressive, on‑going program which generated coverage by AP, UPI, Newsweek, New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, L.A. Times, Popular Science, Science Digest, and public television station. 

Associate Account Executive, Regis McKenna Public Relations, Costa Mesa, Calif. – Dec. 1983 to March 1985

Founding member of Southern California office for high technology/biotechnology public relations agency.  Developed and implemented programs in business, trade, and financial public relations for San Diego and Orange County clients engaged in university genetic research, semiconductor design and manufacturing, software publishing, and software data security.
